Did you know that the Havanese is the national dog of Cuba and is the only dog breed to originate from that island? Find more interesting factoids at the following link: Havanese Facts

The purebred Havanese is a member of the Bichon family. Arriving in Cuba in the early 1500s, the tiny breed developed with little outside influence. As a result, the Havanese is remarkably heat-tolerant due in no small part to his unique coat which feels like silk. By the mid-18th century, the breed became popular with the wealthy and socially powerful of Cuba and Europe. With the Cuban revolution, 11 Havanese dogs were brought to the United State. All the Havanese in the world today, save those from the eastern bloc countries and those remaining in Cuba, stem from those 11 dogs.
